Cuticle maintenance

A painful and uncomfortable feeling of peeling cuticles doesn’t get much of our attention, but the truth is that it is an easily solved problem. A bit of tender loving care for you cuticle will make your fingers look great and feel smooth.

1. Moisturizing
Nearly any skin problem is solved with moisturizing, or the solution includes it as one of the main factors, whether it is about treating a razor burn or cleansing the makeup. You can use a conventional hand cream to moisturize the cuticle or mix it with olive and lavender oil in a bowl for a greater effect. Massage the cream gently into the cuticle and surrounding. An affordable option is to apply the petroleum jelly and rub it into the cuticles. Better do so before bedtime because it is greasy and is not comfortable wearing during the day. Essential oils are also effective but far more expensive.

2. Maintenance
Besides constant moisturizing, you should prevent your cuticles from drying. Wear gloves outside during the wintertime to protect your hands from the cold weather. Avoid drying agents, which can be found in the dishwashing liquid and bar soap. Consider buying liquids and soaps which hydrate your skin. Don’t bite your nails and keep your hands from the mouth. Not only the peeling skin, but the transferred bacteria is bad for your health. If biting the nails is habitual, get rid of this nasty habit.

3. Common mistakes
Cutting the cuticle is absolutely wrong because it protects the nail and its growth. Don’t push back your cuticles unless they are softened, and you perform the procedure using an orange stick (don’t put the wooden one back into your makeup of shaving kit). Don’t do it more than twice a month.

If you have any serious concern about unusual skin cracks or irritation, or you experience pain and swelling of the cuticle, consult with a physician and address the root of the problem (often an infection).
